Impermanence, 2010

This series explores personal family photographs, of the Baby Boomer era, sharing moments enjoying leisure time in Canadian cottage settings in the 1970’s. It contemplates the longevity of surroundings - nature, furniture, buildings - in relation to the transience and impressionable quality of the human being. John Updike’s poem, The Furniture, lends a parallel with its first line, “To things we are ghosts, soft shapes in their blindness that push and pull”.

These paintings were exhibited in a solo exhibition at The Rivoli, Toronto, Canada in 2010, curated by Travis Shilling.
